Students graduating in or before 2018 will complete the current General Education requirements, with much greater flexibility in how their requirements are met. The Class of 2019 and Class of 2020 (including students who graduate in March 2019) will graduate under new requirements, which will take effect in Fall 2018, and can begin to benefit from the flexibility of these new requirements now.
Students graduating after 2018: will not need to fulfill the Study of the Past requirement.
Students graduating in or before 2018: may fulfill the Study of the Past requirement with any course currently designated for Study of the Past or any History, History & Science, or History of Art & Architecture departmental courses (excluding studio courses). When applicable, these courses will automatically be counted and will be reflected on the student’s Academic Advising Report. Students may also petition for another departmental course to count, provided the course engages primarily in historical inquiry. Please note that just because a syllabus includes texts from the past does not mean that a course engages primarily in historical inquiry. To inquire about whether a particular course fulfills Study of the Past, Please contact us with the course syllabus.
